Amtech group to set up MVD unit in Gandhinagar
BS Reporter / Mumbai/ Ahmedabad Aug 11, 2010, 00:03 IST

Amtech Electronics (India) Ltd., a flagship company of Amtech Group, is planning to set up a medium voltage drive (MVD) manufacturing plant in Gandhinagar. At an investment of Rs 50 crore, the manufacturing plant will carry a capacity of 200 MVDs per annum.

The Gandhinagar-based company, which is in business of motion control and automation, recently installed a 7.7 Mw / 11 KV Medium Voltage AC Variable Frequency Drive at Dahej unit of Hindalco Industries Limited, a flagship company of Aditya Birla group. For this, Amtech has collaborated with Beijing-based Hiconics Drive Technology Company Limited for manufacturing MVDs in the country.

“We have already been manufacturing low voltage drives since last two decades. However, we have now tied up with Hiconics Drive who is a formidable player in MVDs. Using their R&D and design expertise, we will provide MVDs in the Indian market through imports as of now. Meanwhile, we are planning to invest around Rs 50 crore for setting up an MVD manufacturing plant in Gandhinagar at a capacity of 200 per annum,” said Piyush Patel, director of Amtech Electronics.

Currently, the company imports around 15-20 MVDs per annum from China through Hiconics Drive Technology.

According to Patel, the MVDs can reduce electric power consumption by 15-20 per cent on SO2 blower application. Amtech Electronics (India) Ltd. has been in the business of motor speed control, automation and power control since last 20 years.

Apart from manufacturing a range of low voltage AC variable frequency drives (AC VFD) locally, Amtech also exports its products to developed countries like USA, South East Asia and European countries.
